Formal Gardens

A place of serenity and tranquil retreat

Gardens are currently under restoration and will reopen in Autumn 2024.

Designed in the early 1980's by Lavone’ Dickensheets Andrews, this exquistive garden offers a haven of peace and tranquility for residents and guests alike.

Lavone, a prominent US Architect and Fellow of the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland, in collaboration with Shannon Development (a state agency responsible for the generation of tourism and industry in the region), meticulously restored and refurbished the Castle and grounds to their former glory.

Restoration and Design

Unwind and Escape

Designed by Levone’ in the early eighties, it was officially opened in 1985.  The garden you see today is much as it was then, retaining the original tower, perimeter stone walls and beech hedging (Fagus sylvatica).

In the upper terrace all the original ericaceous plants still remain (Pieris, Desfontainia spinosa, Rhododendron species, Camellia, Magnolia stellata and Fothergilla major).  While in the lower terrace, the six lime trees, (Tilia cordata) and the Buxus formal hedging, (Buxus sempervirens) also date from that time.
